CaliCoho July 2024 Phoenix Commons - for folks already living in community

Northern California Cohousers:
It's high time for us to get back together in person to share the joys and challenges of living in and running our communities. So, as a continuation of the quarterly gatherings we were doing before COVID interrupted the fun, we bring you the following invitation - please share with all your neighbors and any nearby communities.
Jyoti Rae of Phoenix Commons in Oakland, the SF Bay Area's only senior cohousing neighborhood, invites us to come visit on Sunday, July 7. In person. At their beautiful, new community, right on the water in the Bay. With an optional electric-boat ride tour right from the community's own private dock.
When: Sunday, July 7, from 11 AM til 2 PM (with optional tours/bagels beforehand, and optional boat rides after)
Doors open at 10:15; come by 10:30 AM for bagels, coffee, and tours, by 11 AM for the start. We will wrap by 2 PM and then follow up with optional boat tours by prepaid reservation.
Lunch: Included, free, made by area cohousers (BYOB or desserts/side dishes)
Reservations: Essential, RSVP on this page
Location: Phoenix Commons, at the foot of the Park Street Bridge in Oakland, close to a freeway exit and a BART station. Parking info and directions provided with RSVP.
COVID safety: If you have any symptoms or potential exposure, please stay at home. We will practice social distancing in our gatherings and spend some of our time outside, weather allowing.
Family Welcome: While our host is a senior cohousing community, we will make arrangements for some kid-friendly space and activities (adult supervision still required but can be shared) if we know you are bringing younger ones along. Alameda's beaches are not far away, and the community is right on the Bay Trail.
We'll gather and tour the community and re-introduce each other and share what's going on in our home communities and what we've figured out and what we could use help with, in full group and breakouts by topic, based on what's hot and relevant and popular.
Jyoti says her community can share a lot about how they take care of each other through mutual-support for "Aging in Community," which we know that all communities, even intergenerational ones, are struggling with.
And they are particularly eager to hear how other communities are keeping the feel of community in place while keeping up with California laws around resales, condominium boards and elections, and all the little things that are important but can too-easily dominate meetings and daily life.
If you can make it, please RSVP on this page.
The event is free, but the boat tour will only happen with enough pre-paid reservations for that part.
We really want to get a variety of cohousers at this gathering. We can help arrange carpools or trip sharing or a pickup from Amtrak (Jack London Square Amtrak and Fruitvale BART are both a short ride away) for folks coming from the Sacramento/Davis area or Silicon Valley/Santa Cruz.

We're looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
