Living in Community: Diversity, Affordability (S. Berkeley)

What's it like to live in cohousing? How do you effectively care for your neighbors? How do you get the work done? How are we addressing long-term affordability and diversity in our recruitment and Aging in Community in our neighborhoods?

Join Cohousing Coach Raines Cohen for a conversation (with bagels) with visiting cohouser Epi Bodhi and her husband Charlie from Pioneer Valley Cohousing, in Amherst, MA. Bring your curiosity... and your appetite.

Epi was Public Health Director of her town and now teaches college classes in that field. She's been involved in social action (including as a Global Water Women's Earth Alliance fellow), grandparenting, community governance, and much more.

From the community's website: Cohousing is typically member managed. Pioneer Valley is no exception to this, in fact we take care of just about all our community maintenance except regular trash pick-up and disposal, and large construction / building maintenance jobs. The community has even purchased a truck for the primary purpose of plowing our own driveways, parking lots, and pedestrian ways. In this case, it was truly a situation of “if you want the job done right, you have to do it yourself”.

Pioneer Valley was one of the first communities to adopt Dynamic Governance (Sociocracy). Learn more about it here.
